The History of Ruff Draft Drafting Services
Ruff Draft Drafting Services happened largely as a matter of coincidence. I went to school in the late eighties for what is now considered "traditional" or "vintage" drafting. Those were the days of the slanted drafting tables, triangles, T-squares and mechanical pencils.
While hand drafting using paper and pencils is now considered "old-school" and practically obsolete, the knowledge and methodology used is the same. With the advancement of Computer Aided Drafting, speed and efficiency is greatly improved.
I actually didn't work as a drafter for long. I entered the electrical trades and worked in the field with a company for 12 years. I then accepted an estimating and design position for the same company. The nature of this work exposed me to the world of Computer Aided Drafting. Gone were the days of large drawings rolled-up in cardboard tubes and transferred via courier. Now, entire plan sets and revisions are emailed back and forth. Coming full-circle, I returned to the very same school to take a night course in Autocad - the industry-leading CAD software.
Outside of my regular job, I scraped together money and purchased my first copy of Autocad software and began doing freelance drafting projects for a small business owner I knew. As the work grew steadier, the owner convinced me to start a business. In 2005 Ruff Draft Drafting Services was created. Through referrals, I have developed a small handful of businesses who regularly use my services.
